As it turns out, much of the turmoil surrounding the NFT – the non-fungible token, often erroneously dubbed crypto-art – arises from a wide range of misunderstandings. Since Spring 2021, I’ve actively been exploring the phenomenon from the perspective of my professional artistic digital practice, which took off in 1998 with a discarded office computer and CorelDraw. This resulted not only in an explosive network expansion but also in a growing digital art collection. As with all things, this virtual field is endlessly more nuanced than it may appear from the outside.

Bij de commotie rond de NFT – de non-fungible token of in de volksmond cryptokunst – doen nogal wat misverstanden de ronde. Vanuit mijn eigen digitale artistieke praktijk, die in 1998 begon met een afgedankte kantoorcomputer en CorelDRAW, ben ik sinds maart vorig jaar actief het fenomeen ingedoken met als resultaat onder andere een geëxplodeerd netwerk en een kunstverzameling. Vanzelfsprekend is dit virtuele veld veel genuanceerder dan het van buitenaf lijkt.

Aan de voet van het MAS ligt het Antwerp Art Pavilion, waar momenteel The Three Motions of Loom te zien is van Alexandra Crouwers (1974). Ze liet zich inspireren door de roman-in-wording Wildevrouw van Jeroen Olyshaeghers. Voor literatuur heeft ze altijd al een zwak gehad, getuige de film die ze maakte voor Stefan Hertmans’ poëziebundel Onder een Koperen Hemel of haar eerdere samenwerking met de Brusselse dichter/performer Antoine Boute.

Hoe toon je kunst in een kleine, haast landelijke gemeente onder de rook van Brussel? Het evenement 'Van Stof tot Asse' trekt zich terug in verlaten gebouwen, om negen kunstenaars een plek van rust aan te reiken. Maar dat is bedrieglijk.
